Todd Harris, President/Chief Executive Officer
Todd Harris is the CEO and President of Tech CU. An industry veteran, Harris has more than 25 years’ experience in financial services, including in the banking, credit union and leasing company sectors. Under his leadership, starting mid-2016, Harris pioneered a range of new organizational capabilities and strategic growth initiatives, and in 2017 fostered Tech CU’s push to partner with several fintechs—a move few credit unions can claim. His strategic decisions have served as the catalyst for Tech CU’s unprecedented success—exponentially growing membership by 73% to over 130,000 during his tenure. Harris’ commitment to an organization-wide focus on member satisfaction has resulted in Tech CU’s volume of 5-Star Yelp ratings increasing by 61% between 2018 and 2019, while member complaints decreased 55% over the same period. For the past three years, Standard & Poor’s Global (S&P) recognized Tech CU as one of the top 10 best performing credit unions in the nation, and among the top 3 performing credit unions in California. In 2021, Harris won a CEO Silicon Valley Business Journal C-Suite award, which honors top executives in Silicon Valley whose leadership has made a profound impact on their company.
As evidence of Harris’ vision, Tech CU has been an innovator in the area of solar financing through partnerships with companies such as Tesla and Sunlight Financial. To date, the company has funded more than $1.2 billion in residential solar loans, helping more than 35,000 homeowners across the country save money while protecting the environment. In addition to helping its members go green, Tech CU implemented steps to reduce its own non-renewable energy consumption by 40% through efforts such as replacing all lighting with energy-efficient options and installing solar panels at its headquarters.
Prior to becoming CEO, Harris joined Tech CU in 2010 as CFO and COO. Before joining Tech CU, Harris was CFO at Alliance Credit Union, where he was instrumental in steering the company through the 2008 recession and back to profitability. Prior to Alliance, Harris was CFO for Pentech Financial Services. He also spent 12 years at Silicon Valley Bank, where he held the position of SVP, Finance and Strategic Planning.
With extensive expertise in economic theory, asset liability management, Fed policy, financial markets, risk management and product development, Harris is a regular commentator on economic issues. He has also leveraged his strong financial background to publish articles in VentureBeat, CUNA News Now, Payments Journal, Credit Union Journal and more. In addition, Harris is on the Board of Directors for Tech CU and regularly collaborates with The Bay Area Council.
Harris is also active in the community and has volunteered at Tech CU events with the Family Giving Tree, Stand Up for Kids, Second Harvest of Silicon Valley and The Tech Interactive.
